Pool Party Ideas

Have more fun with your pool by decorating and hosting themed gatherings with family and friends. Here are some party ideas that require minimal preparation but make lasting memories for everyone!

Hawaiian Luau

Luau decorations are inexpensive and easy to find in party or discount stores, adding color and fun to your poolside gathering. Fun touches such as grass table runners, tiki torches, tropical flowers, bamboo accents and leis will add a festive element. Serve Hawaiian-themed foods, fresh fruit and colorful, tropical drinks.

Movie Night/Game Night

Instead of a drive-in, have a “float-in”! Purchase inflatable lounge chairs at your local pool retailer, and move your big-screen television outside or rent one for the evening. Pick a favorite classic or screen “The Little Mermaid,” “Finding Nemo” or even “Jaws.” Set up a “concession stand” and serve popcorn, candy and drinks.

Beach Party

Play beach music around the pool and float toy sailboats and beach balls in the water for a festive atmosphere. Colorful beach towels can serve as tablecloths and large seashells or other beach items as centerpieces. Food can include classic seaside fare such as popcorn, snow cones, hot dogs and French fries, or go all out with an oyster roast or lobster feast.

Birthday Party

There’s nothing more fun than water, so make a child’s birthday special with a swim or spa party. Create fun invitations on flip-flop or fish-shaped cutouts, or write the party invitation on beach balls and mail them to guests in oversized envelopes. Serve light fare such as sliced fruit, half-sandwiches, snack crackers and juice so guests can alternate playing and eating.
